老 子 道 德 学 (第八章):

上善若水。

水善利萬物而不爭,

處眾人之所惡,故幾於道。

居善地,心善淵,

與善仁,言善信,

正善治,事善能,動善時。

夫唯不爭,故無尤。




白話譯文:
最上等的善就像水一樣,看似柔弱卻是包容,

水的善,利益了萬物,而不與他們爭鬥,

處在眾人所不喜歡的地方,卻因而接近於「道」。

處世要好好學習大地的渾厚,

用心要好好學習深水潭子般的包容,

交往要好好學習人際的真實感通,

說話要好好學習信用的確定,

為政要好好學習治事的穩健,

行事要好好學習才能的運用,

變動要好好學習時機的抉擇,

正因為不去爭鬥,因此不會招來怨尤!

Lao Tzu's philosophy:     


Supreme goodness is like water:

the water's goodness benefits myriads of creatures –

yet not competing;

It dwells in places everyone disdains –

insofar it comes close to Dào.

In dwelling, esteem grounding,

in the heart, esteem profoundness,

in giving, esteem humanity,

in talking, esteem sincerity,

in business, esteem competence,

in activities, esteem timing.

For only without competing,

so you are without blame.
